This painting started as a demonstration for my plein air class students painting on location at this beautiful winery in Millbrook, NY. The setting is atop a hill with a wonderful view and several ponds. I was there on a cloudy day about to rain in Spring and all was shades of green.

Hummingbirds fed on the nectar from Canna Lilies on my porch this summer and fall. Twice one stopped for a moment to hover near me. In the weeks after my dear friend George died, it seemed birds were all around me bringing me comfort in my grief. This painting is an homage to George, a fellow nature lover.

Minnewaska State Park in New Paltz, NY is one of my favorite places to walk. Always loved this view overlooking the Catskill Mountains in the distance. The pinks are the blooming Spirea.

Every Fall I wander through back roads in the Mountains looking at the beautiful fall colors. The yellow green and orange trees and the triangle shafts of light caught my attention and made me want to paint this.

The challenge here was the subtle warm grays of the trees without their leaves mixed with the feeling of energy and peace this place has always evoked for me.

Onteora Lake is near Kingston and Woodstock, NY in a preserved forested area. I was walking with a friend when the snowstorm kicked in. I took photos that looked almost black and white in the storm.

One of my favorite swamps near the Ashokan Reservoir in the Hudson Valley. This is one in a series of wetland paintings in oils and watercolor painted in 2017.

One has to walk along a rail trail near Stone Ridge, NY to access this beautiful wetland which I have taken to painting in all the different seasons. The shapes of the trees, the reflections and the horizontal lines created by the areas of ice and water made me want to capture this scene.

This is a painting from the top of a hiking destination known as “Table Rock”. I love the white rocks with the bright fall colors. The Catskill Mountains can be seen in the distance.
